What is a Domain?

A domain name is the internet address of a website or email account. It usually contains your name (or business name) or a brief description of the website.

For example, if you had a business called YOURCOMPANY, you could have www.yourcompany.com as the website address and sales@yourcompany.com for an email address, subject to availabilty.

There are many variations of file extension (.com in the above example) and you may wish to register several and "point" them to your website. Similarly, it is not unusual to register common mis-spellings of your name so that you do not miss a potential "hit" on your website.

For example. www.yourcompany.biz and www.yourcompany.info could divert web traffic to www.yourcompany.com if they were registered and marked as parked domains on your hosting account.
